I’m SO OCD!

Should we thank Tik Tock for making this common statement a trend or has it always been saying? Well for whoever started it, we should work to stop it. Why? OCD is not an adjective or a common personality trait. It is a diagnosed mental health condition that impacts 1% of the population and is often very misunderstood. The videos using this statement often focus on cleaning or organizing desires and traits. OCD is much more complex than that.

OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as a mental health disorder is defined by two things: Obsessions and Compulsion. The obsessions are distressing ideas, thoughts or images that are “stuck” in ones mind on an endless loop. Compulsions are acts or rituals (physical or mental) that are done as a way to relieve discomfort or anxiety from the Obsessions. It’s true someone can be obsessed with fears that results in compulsions to clean. But there are many other themes that can be experienced too. OCD can be very debilitating without the correct treatment. Obsessions are distressing and distracting. Compulsions are often time consuming and impact daily life. Luckily there is great research out there for effective treatment and supportive resources. Learn more HERE
